EastView at Middlebury is a 40-acre nonprofit senior living community with 30 cottage homes, 31 independent living apartments, 20 residential care apartments, and 18 memory care studios. Gawron Turgeon Architects, P.C. integrated green materials into the buildings for interior finishes, efficient mechanical systems, efficient lighting, and landscape features—this decision earned the project $35,000 in rebates from Efficiency Vermont for EastView.
Middlebury Vermont Planning Standards and the Act 250 process required extensive community-related reviews and approvals. GTA developed different site layouts with the goal of bringing a “sense of place” to the EastView Retirement Community. Inspired by village greens, the design incorporates a wetland green and other features. Building massing studies were used to establish unrestricted view corridors and relationships with the neighborhood vernacular—gables, pitched roofs and double-hung windows ensure a harmonious fit with local architectural styles.
