Winter construction on Schooner Estates Memory Care
Construction in Maine during the winter poses a few challenges. The recent cold snap means that to keep on schedule, construction crews must innovate to overcome the challenge of frozen ground.
For the Schooner Estates Senior Living Community in Auburn, ME, Landry/French Construction has built a temporary tented structure around the CMU elevator shaft so the masonry is protected and remains warm. They are blanketing and heating the interior of the foundation to thaw out the ground frost—36” deep in some places! In these aerial photos (taken by the Owner) the orange pieces of equipment around the foundation are the ground heaters which are running 24/7 to keep heat pumping beneath the blankets. As the ground thaws, the crew will begin placing the under-slab plumbing and radon system piping.
