Gawron Turgeon Architects, P.C. carried out space-needs analysis for Portland Press Herald’s offices to determine the square footage for current and future needs. Program elements included multi-media conference rooms, a news room, finance and human resources departments, an advertising department, a staff lunch room, and a high-tech computer and technology suite.

GTA provided numerous test fits to determine the best location for the client upon relocating from their existing Portland building. One City Center was chosen because of its building efficiency and flexibility, and the availability of 25,000 SF. GTA designed this complex new office space, which spans different floors and required a phased move. As a business that operates 24 hours a day, every day, it was critical that all departments continued to operate seamlessly.

The design concept for this multi-media company hinged on transparency and collaboration; each floor is open concept and glass walls partition work areas, offices and conference rooms. The innovative new space is an efficient, well-planned work environment that promotes flexible, diverse, and collaborative work spaces.

The design included multi-media feature walls, advanced technology to demonstrate the Portland Press Herald’s production of the newspaper, bright colors, interesting architectural forms, furnishings that support effective work habits, and quality and efficient lighting.
