Durgin Pines, Skilled and Long-term Care Nursing Home

Gawron Turgeon Architects, P.C. designed this 42,500 SF nursing facility which includes 55 nursing care beds and 26 skilled care/rehabilitation beds. Upon completion, Durgin Pines doubled the community’s capacity for skilled nursing care for seniors. This one-story facility was designed in the Arts & Crafts style with residential materials and beautifully crafted covered drop-offs at both the entrances.

Sitting areas, a commercial kitchen, laundry areas, a children’s pre-school program, and outdoor rehabilitation garden are all part of daily life for residents. The outdoor rehabilitation garden—a first in Maine—is a safe place for patients to re-learn physical skills they need to return to daily life. In this garden, patients experience different exterior surfaces, including cobblestone, a wood ramp, stone, brick, lawn and concrete.
